PSG at the Europower & OZE Power Conference
On Thursday, April 29, during the Europower & OZE Power Conference, Jakub Kowalski, a member of the Management Board of Polska Spółka Gazownictwa, took part in the panel titled “Transformation of Heat Engineering.” He discussed PSG’s place in the planned switch to fuel gas in the Polish heating sector.
Chairman Kowalski pointed out that PSG sees enormous interest in gas in the context of modernizing and transforming the heating sector. “We are aware that in the coming years we will be a kind of ‘steering switch,’ as we will connect these systems and, through our distribution networks, will buy us enough time to reach Renewable Energy Sources” he said. In his assessment, it is biomethane and classic natural gas that will stabilize cogeneration and guarantee that these systems will function properly.
The PSG Management Board member stated that last year was record-breaking for the company in terms of the number of people interested in connecting to the gas network. “In 2020, PSG processed a record number of nearly 242,000 applications for connecting to the gas network; we issued over 222,000 conditions for connecting. This year, by the end of Q1, we had processed nearly 89,000 of them,” he pointed out. He added that there was a 37% increase in the number of applications compared to the same quarter of 2020.
Jakub Kowalski pointed out, however, that the number of refusals is also growing, particularly for individual clients, but also for operators from the heating industry. “Our primary problem here is capacity – the throughput of our distribution network – particularly in places where we connect to the GAZ-SYSTEM network. We need to make large investments so that this closed system can function well and so that we can increase the volume of gas distributed through the networks of Polska Spółka Gazownictwa,” Chairman Kowalski emphasized.
