E-Gas Meter project

Polska Spółka Gazownictwa has launched the E-Gas Meter project. This major undertaking involves the replacement of more than 1.38 million gas meters at customers classified in tariff group 3.

Currently, gas meter readings in tariff group 3 are carried out through a collection system – which requires the physical presence of an employee at the customer’s site to note down meter readings. The assumption behind the project is to move almost entirely away from such a model in favour of remote readings. The implementation of smart gas meters will not only streamline processes, but also contribute to faster access to metering data while looking for information indicating possible failures or other irregularities. The project is also designed to improve customer satisfaction with PSG’s services and reduce complaints about gas consumption levels.
As part of the project, traditional, conventional diaphragm gas meters will be replaced with smart metering devices that will be equipped with remote data transmission function. The smart E-Gas Meters will also feature advanced data transmission technology.
The maximum completion date for the project is December 2026. Replacement of gas meters with smart devices will be carried out by third-party contractors. The replacement process will be carried out by qualified individuals holding appropriate energy licences.

A list of companies that perform gas meter replacements is available HERE.
Each customer is required to make the gas meter available for reading to an authorised representative of the PSG, regardless of the type of gas meter installed. Ownership of an electronic gas meter does not relieve the customer of the obligation to make the gas meter available for reading or maintenance activities.
The project is being implemented with external financial support obtained through funds granted from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP). The strategic goal of the NRRP is to rebuild the development potential of the economy lost as a result of the pandemic, as well as to support the construction of sustainable competitiveness of the economy and increase the standard of living of the population in the long term.

In particular, this will be done by accelerating the development of a low-carbon, circular economy that makes responsible use of environmental resources, as well as through development based on digital solutions.

A smart gas meter is a modern dry gas meter equipped with a module for remote transmission of metering data using low-energy communication technologies. It allows remote reading, reduces the need for collector’s visits, and allows for ongoing monitoring of gas consumption.

The device is completely safe for health. These devices meet strict safety standards and are certified in accordance with current regulations.

As part of the implementation of the E-Gas Meter project, it is planned to replace gas meters with electronic ones only at the sites of Recipients from tariff group 3.

The project is financed from the Company’s own funds and involves the use of external financial support obtained through funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Both the installation and the device itself are free. No cost is borne by the Recipients.

Replacing the gas meter with a smart device will enable remote transmission of gas consumption data. Accordingly, settlements will be made on the basis of actual consumption in the schedule months resulting from the Tariff for gas fuel distribution services.

Moreover, it needs to be borne in mind that having an electronic gas meter does not relieve the Recipient of the obligation to make the gas meter available for reading or maintenance activities.

The Recipient will be billed on the basis of gas consumption data for the billing period in accordance with the terms and conditions of service in its tariff group. For more information on this matter, please contact your gas seller.

Replacing the gas meter does not affect the price of gas.

PSG plans to replace gas meters with smart gas meters from August 2025 to December 2026. The customer will be informed of the planned replacement date.

Recipients will be informed of the planned gas meter replacement. The replacement should not take longer than 30 minutes. If you are unable to be present at the scheduled replacement date, it will be possible to arrange an individual date for the exchange.

The Recipient has an option of placing his/her signature in the mobile app on the fitter’s smartphone after the replacement to confirm the compliance of the metering data. At the same time, there is no need to conclude new or modify current contracts for the supply of gas fuel.

Replacement of the gas meter with an electronic one is one of the necessary activities related to the handling of the Recipient’s Metering and Billing System. The presence of the Recipient during the replacement is mandatory, because after the replacement the Recipient’s gas installation must be vented, which requires access to gas fuel receivers (e.g. stove, boiler).

The dismantled old gas meters will be taken away by the fitters carrying out the replacement and transferred to the storage facilities of Polska Spółka Gazownictwa. There, a decision will be made on their possible reassembly or safe disposal.

The validation period of the device is 10 years. Polska Spółka Gazownictwa sp. z o.o. will take care of the timing and replacement.

All emergencies should be reported to the emergency number 992. Other issues – to the PSG’s nationwide hotline number 22 444 33 33.

A person carrying out the replacement of the gas meter has an appropriate ID card. It is also worth remembering that the fitters acting on behalf of PSG will not demand payment of any fee from you.

Complaints should be reported to the PSG’s nationwide hotline number 22 444 33 33.

The smart gas meter, like other types of gas meters, is owned by Polska Spółka Gazownictwa sp. z o.o., but it is installed on the gas installation of the Recipient.
