PSG - ready for biomethane
"We believe biogas plants will make our economy greener. It certainly won't happen very soon. It will be a long-lasting process which will be accelerated when the amended Renewable Energy Sources Act supporting, e.g. the development of biomethane and energy clusters, enters into force. The potential of this sector in Poland is estimated at around 4-5 billioncubic meters per year," said Robert Więckowski, the President of Polska Spółka Gazownictwa.
So far, PSG has received 141 applications for connection from entities that want to produce biogas or biomethane. The total volume of biogas/biomethane they produce is around 460 million cubic meters per year. This is a small percentage of the market potential, but it should be remembered that the interest of entities in connecting their biogas plants to the gas network is steadily growing.
"In the long-term, the use of purified biogas will significantly improve the energy security of our country and make it possible for us to meet EU decarbonisation targets. However, in order for us to connect all the biogas plants interested, PGS will need around 500 million zlotys for investments in network capacity," added the President of PSG.
