Initiation of the supply of natural gas for the cogeneration module of the municipal heat and power plant in Sieradz means that later this year, Sieradz residents should breathe cleaner air.

“The project in Sieradz is a great example of how the transformation of local district heating should look. I am very pleased that the natural gas we are supplying will be one of the pillars of energy security for residents”, said Jakub Kowalski, Member of the Board for Operations of Polska Spółka Gazownictwa.

The installation used at the Sieradz heating plant is one of the most modern ones in Poland. It is based on, among other things, geothermal water, biomass boilers, and high-efficiency gas cogeneration.

Polska Spółka Gazownictwa is implementing activities related to the energy transition of Sieradz on many levels. The company not only supplies gaseous fuel to system heat sources or local industrial entities but also invests heavily in eliminating sources of low emissions in private buildings.

“Over the past five years, the number of gas customers has almost doubled in Sieradz, and there are now more than 1,500 of them. During this time, we built more than 20 km of gas network, expanding it by nearly 45 percent. It is worth noting that the currently existing distribution network system in Sieradz also provides a source of power for customers in neighbouring municipalities, including the largest customer in the area in nearby Tubądzin”, concluded Jakub Kowalski, Member of the Board for Operations of Polska Spółka Gazownictwa.

As of 2019, PSG has gasified 36 municipalities in Łódź Voivodeship, including 6 in the Sieradz area. Residents of the municipalities of Warta, Sieradz, Zapolice, Szadek, and Buczek now have permanent access to gas.
