PSG has completed an important investment for Warsaw

Polska Spółka Gazownictwa has completed the construction of the gas grid connection of the peak load boiler plant at the Żerań Heat and Power Plant. Thus, after the start of gas fuel consumption, Warsaw residents will be able to breathe cleaner air. The value of the investment amounted to nearly PLN 4.3 million.
The Żerań Heat and Power Plant is the second plant after the Siekierki Heat and Power Plant, which supplies the capital city's inhabitants with the most heat. As part of the investment carried out by Polska Spółka Gazownictwa, a gas measuring station was built, with a capacity of 29,400.00 m3/h and over 300 m of medium-pressure gas connection.

"The emissivity of natural gas is much lower than that of hard coal or lignite. Thus, the completed investment will help the Żerań HPP meet EU air quality requirements. After the start of gas fuel consumption, CO2 emissions will decrease for each GJ of energy generated. An added benefit will be a significant reduction of other pollutants, such as dust, nitrogen or sulfur compounds," said Robert Więckowski, President of Polska Spółka Gazownictwa.

Polska Spółka Gazownictwa has been witnessing an increased interest in connecting professional entities to the grid for nearly two years. Even before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a survey of this market was made, which PSG repeated in the middle of the year. As a result of comparing both inquiries, nearly 150 new entities have appeared that want to connect to the gas network in the future. This is because natural gas is a heating plant's only way to achieve climate neutrality. However, connecting so many professional entities is a huge technical and financial challenge for Polska Spółka Gazownictwa.

"It requires preparing a support system for entities that want to join our network. So that they could co-finance the connection costs using external funds. We are talking about this with representatives of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. We would like to see changes in the so-called Modernization Fund, which concerns the power and heating sectors. We believe that modernization processes of existing connections or the construction of new networks should be also co-finance, among others, using these funds," summed up Jakub Kowalski, a member of the PSG Management Board for Operations.
