PSG carries out extra odorising of gas

If you can smell leaking gas, immediately contact the Emergency Gas Service (Pogotowie Gazowe) – emergency number 992. Why must this not be ignored? Natural gas, i.e, methane, is combustible, and in the right concentration, its mixture with air is explosive. Additionally, leaky flues, defective installations, and faulty heating appliances may contribute to the release of carbon monoxide, which has highly poisonous properties.

What is extra odorising? Natural gas, which is delivered to us from the network, has no smell. The characteristic smell is the result of adding a special odorising agent to it, that is one that gives it a smell. Extra odorising consists of increasing the amount of this agent, so that it becomes even more intense, which is meant to make it easier to detect possible leaks in the network or gas installation, or the faulty operation of gas appliances.

If you smell gas, the Emergency Gas Service must be notified immediately. The obligation to control and repair the gas network rests with the gas distribution network operator – Polska Spółka Gazownictwa, within whose structure operates the Emergency Gas Service.
