PSG at the Polish District Heating Chamber of Commerce Forum

“Both our Development Plan and the strategic documents of the ORLEN Capital Group, of which we are a member, forecast an increase in gas demand in the coming years,” said Wojciech Kowalski, a member of the Management Board of Polska Spółka Gazownictwa, during the 1st Polish District Heating Chamber of Commerce Forum.

“In the case of district heating, the execution of connection contracts already concluded will increase gas consumption by 1 billion m³ by 2030. From our point of view, this is a major leap forward and our network is being thoroughly prepared for it. We translate the Development Plan into concrete investment plans,” said Wojciech Kowalski during the panel discussion ‘Sector integration as a key element of the energy transition’, which opened the 1st Polish District Heating Chamber of Commerce Forum held in Karpacz.

Last year, we spent a total of over PLN 3 billion on investments and this year will be much the same.

Jerzy Sitko, a member of the PSG Management Board, who took part in the panel ‘Practical aspects of cooperation between the gas and district heating sectors’, spoke in more detail about the process of connecting heat plants and combined heat and power plants, as well as the structure of the connection fee.

“Over the past five years, we have connected 213 sites, with a capacity of 230,000 m³ per hour, which equates to a volume of approximately 600 million m³ of gas per year. This process is accelerating rapidly, as evidenced by the fact that we have concluded a further 52 contracts since 2025. In total, we are currently managing 88 connection contracts with a volume of nearly 1 billion m³ of transported gas. And this is just the beginning. In the updated draft of the National Energy and Climate Plan (KPEiK) – depending on the scenario – greenhouse gas emissions are set to be reduced by between 45% and 53% by 2030, which will affect the pace of this process,” said Jerzy Sitko.

We are ready to connect heating plants and combined heat and power plants, and we have secured the budget for this purpose.

“We have already finalised the Financial Plan and we are just awaiting the final decisions from the owners. The budget I am referring to allocates PLN 143 million for this purpose this year and just under PLN 200 million in subsequent years,” emphasised Jerzy Sitko.
