PSG at the 8th Congress of the Polish Gas Industry

”The gas market in a new reality”, this was the slogan of the 8th Congress of the Polish Gas Industry, during which representatives of government administration, science and the industry discussed the most vital issues affecting the development of the Polish gas sector. The event was organised by the Chamber of the Gas Industry.
The Ministry of State Assets, the Ministry of Climate and Environment and the Ministry of Development and Technology took the honorary patronage of the Congress. Polska Spółka Gazownictwa is among the main partners of the event. On the first day of the congress, two thematic sessions were held: ”A new model of European gas supplies" and "Stability and security of the gas system".

President of the Management Board of Polska Spółka Gazownictwa, Robert Więckowski, participated in the panel "Stability and security of the gas system". The session was also attended by Paweł Pikus, Head of the Electricity and Gas Department at the Ministry of Climate and Environment, Andrzej Sikora, President of the Board of the Institute of Energy Studies, and Andrzej Ziółkowski, President of the Office of Technical Inspection.

One of the topics discussed was the gas network expansion programme in the context of EU policy. President Robert Więckowski emphasised that Polska Spółka Gazownictwa focuses on ensuring the country's energy security by delivering fuel efficiently and safely to both professional and individual customers. The current situation means that we are facing new challenges. We are observing a great interest in connections; for example, the developers themselves declare to cover the connection costs.

The panel discussion also concerned the growing popularity of renewable energy sources. ”Solar energy is now the topic of the day. The question is, what practical purpose does it serve in winter? Almost none. The solution is, of course, electricity storage, but nevertheless, gas supplemented with ecological gas (biogas, biomethane) is a future-proof solution. We, as a society, cannot afford to switch from gas to other renewable energy sources overnight”, emphasised the PSG President.

President Robert Więckowski also said the following about the challenges facing the industry, “Our ambition is to build gas pipelines suitable for transmitting all admixture gases.  The major problem, however, is the cost of connecting the biogas plant to our grid, or more specifically, who is to bear the cost”.
