PSG allocated PLN 26 million for the gasification of Orawa and the surrounding areas

Polska Spółka Gazownictwa, at a meeting in the municipality of Jablonka, summarised its work to expand the gas network in the Orawa region and its localities. The meeting was attended, among others, by Marian Żołyniak, Technical Board member of PSG; Paweł Firlej, Director of the Gasworks Branch in Kraków; and also representatives of local authorities, including the municipalities of Czarny Dunajec, Lipnica Wielka, and Jabłonka.
The first stage of the aforementioned project was the gasification of the Jabłonka municipality based on an LNG regasification station. The short completion time of the project was highlighted – the concept was approved in February 2019, and the station became operational as early as December 2020. The regasification station in Lipnica Wielka was built just as quickly. Further measures will be implemented in 2024, and a total of about 43 km of gas network will be built. The potential of the localities included in the investment plan is 1,876 connections. The cost of implementing all phases of the investment project is more than PLN 26 million.

The Orawa region and surrounding localities until that time had not been gasified, so the LNG stations in Jabłonka and Lipnica Wielka have made it possible for gas to reach not only individual consumers but also local government buildings, schools, fire stations, and health centres. The ability to switch to gas fuel will translate into lower emissions and reduced smog, the levels of which are very high in the region.

Marian Żołyniak, a member of PSG's Technical Board, stressed the advantages of island-type gasification. He noted the cost-effectiveness and speed of the project, as well as the safety of customers. Due to the fact that 1 m3 of LNG is 621 m3 of natural gas, PSG can gasify places where it was not economically feasible until now. During the meeting, he also referred to the challenges in handling biomethane and hydrogen, stressing that PSG was ready to meet them.

The next phases of the investment project will be implemented in 2024, and will include such villages as Chochołów, Ciche – Miętustwo, Dział, Koniówka, Piekielnik, Podczerwone, Ratułów, Wróblówka and Załuczne.
