Otmuchów–Paczków gas pipeline – the location decision is made

Polska Spółka Gazownictwa has obtained the location decision for the Otmuchów–Paczków gas pipeline. It is an important step in the execution of one of the key gas investments in south-west Poland. The new infrastructure will significantly improve the safety and reliability of the supplies of gas for residents and entrepreneurs from the Otmuchów and Paczków municipalities – an area especially affected by the consequences of last year’s flood.

The new high-pressure gas pipeline, over 20 km long, will be constructed in the Nysa County in the Opole Voivodeship. It will replace the existing, time-worn gas pipeline whose technical parameters no longer meet the growing needs of the local community. The estimated capital expenditures amount to over PLN 42 million net. Polska Spółka Gazownictwa is applying for co-financing for the enterprise from EU funds under the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment programme – the amount requested is around PLN 32 million.

“Obtaining the location decision is not only an important stage of the execution of the investment but also a clear signal for the local communities that their safety and comfort are our priorities. The residents of Otmuchów and Paczków were particularly strongly affected by the consequences of last year’s flood, which is why it is important to us that this gas pipeline comes into operation as soon as possible,” emphasises Wojciech Kowalski, member of the Management Board of PSG.

Construction works will be carried out with respect for the existing buildings and for the environment. Where necessary – for example, in the cases of crossings with roads or watercourses – modern trenchless technologies will be used. The modernisation of this infrastructure will allow comprehensive securing of gas fuel supplies in areas considered to be permanently marginalised. The region’s residents will get more stable gas supplies, the quality of the distribution services will improve, and the existing infrastructure will be taken out of service.
