Beware of scammers! The "gas fitter" scam in Radomsko
For several years now, Polska Spółka Gazownictwa (PSG) has been warning Poles against fraudsters who are extorting money by pretending to be gas works employees. Over the last days, fake gas fitters have targeted the residents of Radomsko. We would like to remind you that our employees are not entitled to collect any fees directly from customers. We also recommend exercising extra caution and advise on what to do in the case of a suspected attempt of such fraud.
"Gas fitter" scams occurring with varying intensity across Poland, have reached Radomsko. An unknown perpetrator, pretending to be an employee of the gas plant in Piotrków Trybunalski, was selling overpriced gas detectors and offering gas installation tightness and efficiency checks at inflated prices.
“Polska Spółka Gazownictwa always recommends increased caution in such situations.
Please remember that our employees, including external companies contracted by us, are not entitled to charge any fees directly to customers. If you have any doubts, please contact your building manager or the nearest gasworks. Our customers can also contact the Contact Centre by calling a national telephone number +48 22 444 33 33 – operating Monday to Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., to verify gasworks employees’ identity and their activities”, said Robert Więckowski, President of the Management Board of Polska Spółka Gazownictwa.
The employees of Polska Spółka Gazownictwa regularly handle periodic replacement of gas meters due to the loss of certification throughout their area, including Radomsko. These jobs, however, are done free of charge.
"We would also like to remind you that we do not offer the services of inspections of indoor gas devices and installations. In accordance with applicable law, it is the property owner or manager that is responsible for the technical condition of indoor utility installations. They are responsible for choosing a company to remove potential irregularities," said the President of the Management Board at Polska Spółka Gazownictwa.
Our safety, as well as the safety of others, depends on our attitude. That's why any attempts of such actions should be immediately reported to the police. Elderly people living alone are most likely to become victims of scammers. That's why talking to our loved ones, parents, grandparents and other elderly family members and making them aware of potential threats is so important.
Polska Spółka Gazownictwa recommends exercising extra caution. Remember:
- always demand that a person claiming to be an employee of a gas plant shows you a company identity card with a photo, official number and an expiry date;
- please remember that our employees, including those of external companies we subcontract, are not entitled to directly charge customers any fees;
