PSG advises how not to be fooled by fake gas engineers
In September, the temperatures outside are likely to drop, the nights become much cooler, and the days are not so warm and sunny. The time before the start of the heating season is the period for the annual gas safety inspections; unfortunately, it is also a period when consumers see the intensified activities of fraudsters claiming to be gasworks employees. Being aware of this, Polska Spółka Gazownictwa encourages its customers to be extra cautious and advises them on how to behave when someone claiming to be a gas engineer knocks on your door.
According to the building law and the regulations of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, every property manager is obliged to inspect the gas installations annually. Therefore, especially before the start of the heating season, in housing cooperatives, gas engineers start their inspections. It is also the time when criminals also become much more active. They claim to be employees of the gasworks and offer to residents gas leak detectors or services to check the tightness and efficiency of gas installations at greatly inflated prices.
“Polska Spółka Gazownictwa always recommends increased caution in such situations. Please remember that our employees, including external companies contracted by us, are not entitled to charge any fees directly to customers. If you have any doubts, please contact your building manager or the nearest gasworks. Our customers can also contact the Contact Centre by calling a national telephone number +48 22 444 33 33 – operating Monday to Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., to verify gasworks employees’ identity and their activities”, said Robert Więckowski, President of the Management Board of Polska Spółka Gazownictwa.
